Suraj Revanna , son of former Minister H.D Revanna, is accused of sexually assaulting a man and it was these Hassan police officials who arrested JD(S) MLC Suraj late this Saturday night after questioning him about the sexual assault case registered against him in Hassan.
A 27-year-old youth from Arkalgudu Taluk, who claimed to be a JD(S) party worker, lodged a complaint at the Holenarasipur Rural Police Station on Saturday alleging that the MLA had sexually assaulted him at his farmhouse in Gannikada in Holenarasipur taluk on June 16.
He was called for questioning and the interrogation went on for several hours that night. The same senior police officer of the district told The Hindu that the MLA has been arrested and the rest of the proceedings will take place on Sunday.
MR Suraj , son of former minister HD Revanna, who was elected to the Legislative Council from the local bodies of Hassan district in 2022, has also been accused of sexually assaulting a person and threatening to kill him. And a case has been registered against Suraj and his associate Shivakumar under sections 377 (unnatural offences) or 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Holenarsup rural police.
FIR filed against two people for blackmailing JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna on charges of sexual exploitation
The FIR was filed less than an hour after the same Kannada news channel made the claim and the same man filed a petition to the Karnataka Police Chief and Hassan SP alleging that Suraj had raped her.
The Holenarasipur police officer had lodged an FIR this Friday against two persons who had allegedly demanded money from JD(S) MLC Revanna and threatened to defame him if he did not meet their demands.
Less than hours before the FIR was lodged, the same Kannada news channel had also claimed that a person had filed a petition with the Karnataka State Police Chief and the Hassan Superintendent of Police alleging that she was raped by Suraj, who is the son of former minister HD Revan and brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna, who has also been accused of sexually abusing women, though The Hindu could not independently confirm this. Sources in the Hassan district police also claimed that they have not received any such petition.

Meanwhile, Suraj has denied the allegation and alleged that when he refused to give Rs 5 crore, the same person filed a false complaint against him.
Suraj friend Shivkumar also filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police yesterday and alleged that the JD(S) worker had contacted him earlier this month and demanded Rs 5 crore. He also threatened that if his demands were not met, he would have to file a case of sexual harassment against Suraj Revanna.
Shivkumar has said that the man had first approached him for help in finding a job and Shivkumar had also given him Revanna’s number and asked him to contact Suraj but even after not getting the job, he started blackmailing Shivkumar and Suraj, the complaint states.
Suraj arrest comes just days after former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was sent to judicial custody and the 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM HD Devegowda failed to And also in the recent elections the Hassan Parliamentary Constituency has been retained.
Cases of sexual abuse have also come to light and on April 26, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Hassan, pen drives containing pornographic videos allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna were circulated.
After the case was registered against him, JD(S) suspended him from the party. And the BJP distanced itself from Revanna and the investigation. Its state unit chief S Prakash said, as a party we have nothing to do with the video and we should not comment on it.
His father HD Revanna also had a police case registered against him for kidnapping a woman and the woman said that both the men raped her and his father, The former MLA and PWD minister also got bail on May 14 in the kidnapping case.. And after that he got bail in the sexual harassment case too.
Suraj Revanna sexual abuse case also handed over to CID
The Karnataka government has handed over the case registered against JDS MLC Dr Suraj to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
ADGP (Law and Order) R. Hitendra has also sent a message to the CID and the SP of Hassan that the crime number 92/2024 registered at Holenarasipur Rural Police Station of Hassan district has been handed over to the CID with immediate effect for further investigation.
Superintendent of Police and Director General, CID Special Unit and Economic Offences, Bengaluru have been asked to investigate further and send a detailed report only after the investigation of the case is completed.
Home Minister Pramod Sawant while talking to reporters said that after the complaint, the police have registered an FIR and they have also taken Suraj into custody and the investigation is on.
