Kolkata: This morning, an express train and a freight train collided in Darjeeling district of West Bengal and many passengers were seriously injured. The Kanchenjunga was going from Silchar in Assam to Sealdah in Kolkata when a freight train hit it from behind near Rangapani station near New Jalpaiguri.
It is being told that in the accident, two coaches of Kanchenjunga Express have derailed and more information about the accident is awaited.

Mr. Vaishnav has said in a post on Twitter that the rescue operation has started on a war footing and he also said that the accident took place in NFR zone. The rescue operation was going on on a war footing. And the railways and NDRF are working together.And the injured are also being taken to the hospital as soon as possible. A senior officer of Northern Frontier Railway (NSR) has told that Sealdah bound Kanchenjunga collided with a goods train near New Jalpaiguri on Sunday morning. And Divisional Railway Manager of Katihar Division of NFR has told that there are unconfirmed reports of some people getting injured in this accident which happened at around 9 am and he has told that it was coming from Agartala. And Kanchenjunga train collided with a goods train near Rangapani near New Jalpaiguri station.
A senior official of the North Frontier Railway had confirmed that at least five people were killed in a collision between the 13174 Kanchenjunga Express going to Sealdah and a goods train near New Jalpaiguri on Monday morning. And more than 20 people were seriously injured.
This incident took place near Rangapani near New Jalpaiguri station. And this incident happened around 9 o’clock. When this accident happened, the Kanchenjunga was going from Agartala to Sealdah.
Additional Superintendent of Darjeeling Police Abhishek Roy has told reporters that five passengers were killed in the accident. And their families are in a bad state. 20-25 people are also injured, their condition is critical. The accident happened when a freight train collided with the Kanchenjunga Express.
Due to this collision, at least two rear coaches of the Kanchenjunga derailed. And the engine of the freight train hit the express train from behind. And due to this, the coaches have also suffered a lot of damage. And the coaches have derailed.
15 people including the loco pilot died in the accident, PM Modi announced compensation for the victims.
The train was going from Agartala to Sealdah and this big accident happened at around 9 in the morning.

It has been raining heavily in Siliguri since morning. And due to which rescue is being affected and when this accident happened at around 9 am, the train was going from Agartala to Sealdah. And due to this, long distance rail services have been stopped irrevocably.

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista also visited the medical college in North Bengal on Monday where the victims of the Kanchenjunga train accident were admitted.
In a statement, his office said that we will leave no stone unturned to ensure the best possible medical treatment for all the victims and I am very grateful to the team of doctors and nurses, and all other necessary staff who are working diligently to provide the best care to all the accident victims.
The statement said that out of the 44 injured, four are in very serious condition.

He wrote on the social media platform X that he was talking about the collision between Kanchenjunga and freight train in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal and the Hon’ble Union Minister told me that the rescue operation is in full swing. And assurance was given. And all necessary help will be given to the victims and all their family members.
TMC criticised BJP for worsening the situation of Indian Railways during the rescue operation.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has been accusing the BJP government at the centre of ruining the Indian Railways for years.
The rescue operation was going on at a war footing and was a very hard job and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, her administration, district officials and our party workers are trying their best to help the people. And we feel that a proper investigation is required to find out how this accident happened. The railways are trying to blame the driver of the goods train for not being able to see the train. And now that driver has also died. And that is why they are not confirming the rescue of the railways. It is not clear whether it was a failure of the signalling system or something else but the BJP government has ruined the Indian Railways for years.
There was no safety for the passengers and there was no improvement in the technology. There is lack of maintenance and service collection is not fixed and we will raise these issues in future but right now we are still focusing on rescue operations and helping the affected people.
Railway Minister announced compensation for the victims
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav ji has also announced compensation for the victims of the collision between Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express and goods train near New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal on Monday and the compensation includes Rs 10 lakh in case of death, Rs 2.5 lakh in case of serious injury and Rs 50 thousand even in case of minor injury.
